Gap Year

It's been awhile, but I'm dusting off the keyboard.

Not that it ever gained a whole lot of dust.  I half started over a dozen pieces, even managed to finish one - but I was enjoying time away from the internet more the longer time went on, and my short break away wound up being a gap year (and then some).

I wasn't completely cut off in my absence.  I didn't miss the Adam Goodes/Eddie McGuire affair, the 18c repeal debate, or anything else that was reported via television news, so expect my 2c on those dated subjects in time as well. And if you can't wait until then for which side of the fence I am about the King Kong joke, I'll at least give you an answer to that - I think Eddie got a bum rap.  I'm not his biggest fan, but the guy wasn't being a racist.

Let the fun and games begin...

  1. I agree on Eddie, and I said as much on the Catallaxy blog, that he was thinking along the lines that Adam Goodes is a big, swarthy and imposing figure so you could see him as a great guy to promote a film about a large, swarthy chap who knocks things over.

At the same time I said t hat, rather like the kid who called "ape" I didn't see a racist connotation.

  2. When the incident with Goodes occurred, I asked family and friends here in the North (all indigenous) their opinion on it. All said they had never heard the term "ape" used in a racist context and all said that colour aside, he did look like an ape. If you want to hear racist terms used at a footy match, go to a game in Alice Springs. Black and white alike are racially abused, and not always by the opposite race either.

  3. Did that 13 year old girl call Goodes an ape? I have done some searching around on the net and it seems that she yelled out "F% off, Magilla the Gorilla!" Probably not a nice thing to yell at a person, but when I went to the footy years ago I never for one minute thought that the guys on the field could hear what 100,000 fans were yelling at them.
And from what I can gather the 13 year old was not the most educated and sophisticated person in the house, so would she be aware that using the name of a cartoon character gorilla was actually a racist slur? I wouldn't have known that.

  13. Was the reaction by Goodes a catalyst for the Australian of the year award?

Am so happy to testify about a great spell caster that helped me when all hope was lost for me to unite with my ex-girlfriend that I love so much. I had a girlfriend that love me so much but something terrible happen to our relationship one afternoon when her friend that was always trying to get to me was trying to force me to make love to her just because she was been jealous of her friend that i was dating and on the scene my girlfriend just walk in and she thought we had something special doing together, i tried to explain things to her that her friend always do this whenever she is not with me and i always refuse her but i never told her because i did not want the both of them to be enemies to each other but she never believed me. She broke up with me and I tried times without numbers to make her believe me but she never believed me until one day i heard about the DR.
